Word: Psalms

The book of Psalms is well known for being poetry of praises from David to God. It's full of flowery language and some beautiful metaphors for God. If it helps, think of it this way: Psalms is what Thomas Kinkade has bastardized through his "art." (Ooooo, Kinkade, you got burned!)

Are you there God? It's me, Jim. Could you Kill my enemies?

Psalms has so much beautiful and poetic imagery, you may be thinking to yourself, "but Jim, how could you possibly choose what to do your Word design on?" Here's the thing.... There have been plenty of people who have already done some really cool artwork based on Psalms (Philip Davis has a great series going right now). I'm not interested in reinventing the wheel, so after digging a little deeper in Psalms, I came across something I could really sink my design teeth into... the curses of Psalms. Oh yeah, baby.

Picking up Kincade's slack

Just like Thomas Kinkade, you may not realize that there are a bunch of verses and passages in Psalms that are explicitly about cursing other people. In fact, just 2 chapters prior to the famous Psalm 23 ("The Lord is my shepherd...") you find this verse:

At the time of your appearing
you will make them like a fiery furnace.
In his wrath the LORD will swallow them up,
and his fire will consume them. (Psalm 21:9)

Yikes!

Since Kincade obviously will not be tackling these types of passages, it's time for me to step up to the plate. I was so inspired by the curses of Psalms (that's a weird sentence, huh?), I did a series of 3 designs for this week. You can check the other ones out here and here.

Those Dumb Israelites

Reading this stuff now just seems so weird. I mean, asking God to kill your enemies? Hello! Those Israelites were so dumb! Good thing us modern day Christians are smarter and don't take part in those kinds of perverted ideas of God anymore.
